
Dr. Amethyst Shortz- Okwu is a Functional Medicine Practitioner and Health and Educational Consultant. She is the President/CEO of Astute Research and Consulting and Premier Health and Wellness. She was the past CEO of Nicekare, Inc for 15 years. She is a contractor for the Georgia Department of Human Services, DBHDD, and the Division of Aging. She sits on the Board of various non-profits.
Dr. Okwu is a lifelong Democrat and began as a volunteer working her first local campaign in Macon, Georgia, during the campaign of President Bill Clinton. In 2020, Dr. Okwu became a member of the CCDC, and she also ran for Chatham County Coroner. She is a Post-seat Holder for District 5. She is a Member of the African-American Caucus of the DPG and the DPG Panel Committee.
Dr. Okwu is a licensed and ordained minister and has attended Resurrection Ministries of Christ Apostolic Center, Inc., where she serves as the organization's chief administrator. She is also a member of the American Psychological Association, American Counseling Association, and Parent2Parent of Georgia.
Dr. Okwu is married to Chief, Dr. Peter Okwu and has three teenage children.
